Illetro eCert connects a ServiceM8 job to the Building Commission NSW eCert API. If you are weighing up a ServiceM8 eCert integration, this page covers what is sent, what comes back, and who remains responsible for the certificate.
What BCNSW eCert is
BCNSW eCert is the Building Commission NSW portal that NSW Certificates of Compliance for Electrical Work are lodged through. From 1 July 2026, Building Commission NSW requires all CCEWs to be submitted through it. Their wording is that CCEWs must be submitted "either individually or by approved API". Handwritten and PDF CCEW forms are no longer accepted.
The portal is the system of record for all CCEWs, regardless of how the data is submitted. Certificates are generated and stored there.
Signing in to the portal itself uses two factor authentication every time, with a one time passcode sent to the registered email address. Lodging from a ServiceM8 job does not put you through that login.
How the add-on connects
Illetro eCert integrates with the BCNSW eCert portal via API. A lodgement goes from the ServiceM8 job to that API, rather than through the portal screens, and the certificate reference comes back on the spot.
Building Commission NSW says a business or software system may submit a CCEW on your behalf, but you remain legally responsible for the CCEW. Using software does not move that responsibility. Each certificate is your own legal declaration, so you lodge under your own licence, and nothing is ever submitted until you deliberately press "Lodge with Building Commission NSW".
Illetro eCert is an independent add-on for ServiceM8, not built by, endorsed by or affiliated with ServiceM8.
What is sent
Three kinds of information go to Building Commission NSW for a lodgement:
- Job and site details, read from the ServiceM8 job: the work completed date, the site address, and the customer's first name, last name and email.
- Installation and testing details, the parts you enter on the form: the type of installation, the work type, the equipment lines, and the tests performed.
- The licensed electrician's details: the name, NSW licence number, email, mobile and business address saved the first time that electrician lodges.
Nothing is ever submitted until you deliberately press "Lodge with Building Commission NSW". Opening the form, pre-filling and editing send nothing to Building Commission NSW.

What comes back
A certificate reference, in seconds, on a receipt showing the reference, the site, the round trip time, and how many days were left in the 7 day window. That reference is your proof the certificate lodged.
Building Commission NSW then does its own backend work, generating the certificate PDF and sending its own emails. The receipt says this is usually 2 to 15 minutes, and it can take up to 60 minutes. Those timings are a guide, not a guaranteed turnaround from Building Commission NSW or from Illetro. An email that has not arrived yet, within that hour, does not mean the lodgement failed.
If you have turned on diary records, Illetro eCert also writes one note into the ServiceM8 job diary recording the certificate reference, when it lodged, and under whose name and licence.
Common questions
Do I still have to lodge within seven days?
Yes. Building Commission NSW requires a CCEW to be submitted no later than 7 days after completing the work, including the safety and compliance test. The add-on does not change that deadline. It makes it easier to close the window on the day you finish.

You are. Building Commission NSW says a business or software system may submit a CCEW on your behalf, but you remain legally responsible for the CCEW. Each certificate is your own legal declaration, so you lodge under your own licence.
Does Building Commission NSW endorse Illetro eCert?
No. Illetro is a private business. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of Building Commission NSW, the NSW Government, or any regulator or statutory authority. Illetro eCert lodges your certificates to Building Commission NSW because you ask it to.
What information is sent?

Can I still lodge directly in the portal?
Yes, at any time. Illetro eCert is a convenience layer over the Building Commission NSW portal, never a replacement for it and never a barrier to it. Nothing about using Illetro eCert removes or delays your ability to lodge directly.
